It’s been about seven days since I’ve decided to try not using any sort of soap on my body, face, or hair. It’s going fairly well. My skin feels pretty much the same, and my face hasn’t broken out into a giant pizza or anything. I don’t think I smell, but the real test will come tonight, when my friends will likely stick their noses in places that violate social norms.
But the hair… it’s getting rather strawlike in texture, and it’s starting to smell very… human. Did I mention that I stopped combing it, too? In case you don’t know what I look like, I have long, straight Asian hair. Not combing it is almost an unfair experiment because Asian hair doesn’t tangle easily. That said, mine is starting to resemble a bird’s nest.
I wash it every morning with water only, and I’ve ended up taking extremely long showers, trying to rub the dirt and oils out for several minutes. Not an efficient use of water or time. If I’ve worked out that day, I’ll wash it again, and this has resulted in having wet hair nearly every minute of every day, since I don’t blow dry it either.
Expected run time for this experiment is 30 days. The no body or face soap part should be a breeze, and unless someone tells me I stink I don’t see why I should go back to using soap. However, I already know I’ll go back to using shampoo. I don’t like my hair smelling too human.
