It took two days of whittling, but I managed to pop the top off one of the short rails today. A note to anyone who may attempt to emulate this method of seat rail removal: they really do pop off, and they curl slightly. If you’re not careful, you may wind up slapping yourself in the face with one of these things.
I’ve gone through 8 cutting wheels, and my back is aching. Just as I was starting to regret taking on a project of this size, my hero of an uncle said I could borrow his plasma cutter. Oh happy day! What might take an angle grinder 2 hours should only take a plasma cutter 2 minutes. I’m pretty stoked.
I forgot to take a ‘before’ photo of the bolt head, but trust me, it used to be there.
