Costs

You know what’s great about this van conversion? I can do whatever the heck I want with it (within reason). I can choose to work on insulation one day, and flooring the next. Or I can take a break for a day or two and regroup as necessary.

The insulation thing was boring me so I switched gears yesterday and got a bit of design work done, and today did “normal” things like having a late lunch with a friend, and checking out the Make Music Pasadena festival.

Okay, I confess. I stayed at the festival for a whole 3 minutes and left because the crowds were just too much. And I didn’t go on purpose, it was on the way to the lunch thing. And the lunch thing was largely van conversion-driven.

So Gypsy and I have had a couple days off. This seems like a good time to reveal what all this is costing me.

TOO MUCH.

I’m running totally, completely, grossly over budget. And late. Back in January I was hoping to spend about $15,000 and be done by the end of April. If this were a real-world project I’d be so fired by now.

You’ll notice that the first thing I bought (back in December) was a Luggable Loo. What can I say? Priorities. Jef and I figured that if we could deal with pooping in a bucket, we could deal with living in a van. You might also notice a missing number or two―I couldn’t find the receipts for those items.

So there you have it. The van and the high top account for $18,350 of the whopping $22,037.73 total. I rationalize the cost by telling myself that it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a house, plus this van will house two humans and a dog.
