Ah, Oscar night. The night that all off Hollywood goes into a tizzy. Anyone who’s anyone is busy doing something related to the Oscars.
As many years as I’ve lived in Los Angeles, that has never been me, and I have to say, thank goodness. While I have to admit that once upon a time, many years ago I was very much involved with the entertainment industry, at some point I came to my senses and decided that the industry and I simply didn’t mesh well. Fickle, flakey, and ephemeral—that’s not me. Since then film and TV have meant less and less to me.
This year, for the first time ever, I’ve never heard of any of the films nominated for Best Picture. That might sound totally lame, but really, it’s no small accomplishment. This means that for all of 2013 I haven’t seen any billboards, commercials, radio ads, web or print ads for any of those films. I’ve been advertisement free for a whole year. Awesome!!!
Yeah, I’m living under a rock. I like it.
On the van front, teeny tiny bits of progress have been made between bouts of rain. After a good bit of struggle with the knockouts on the sides of the charge controller, Jef and I finally got some of the wires attached. Removing the knockouts was another one of those things that you think will be simple but takes forever. The instructions in the manual said simply, “Remove knockouts.” How??? It took the better part of an hour to get the first one out. We’re noobs.
