Van flooring
« on: May 10, 2016, 03:45:58 PM »
All,
We have a few questions about installing a floor.

First, thanks to Chris for the 9 things she would change article, some very helpful info.

1. Should the floor be secured with fasteners to the van floor sheet metal?
2. If yes, what methods are best?
3. If We drill holes in the floor, this exposes metal to the external elements, should the holes and fasteners be coated with something like paint?  Living in Michigan makes us worry of corrosion by road salt.

Hi Rick and Maki,

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules and this, but in my opinion, if you will have lots of furniture that will be attached to both the floor and the side of the van, that will probably be enough to hold the floor down. That said, in the event of an accident, it's probably safer to screw the floor down to the floor. Personally, I did not screw my floor down because it's anchored to the sides of the van in several places and I felt that was enough.

I think I'm going to screw my floor down and cover the bottom with rubberized undercoating.
